About the Journal

​

ALEA — Revue Internationale d'Art et de Recherche is published by the Association de la Lueur Éclairante de l'Art (ALEA), Paris. ISSN 3130-477X, assigned by the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF). The journal is published annually, in a digital-only online edition; no print edition is produced. All articles are fully open access and free to read.

Inaugural issue: N° 1 | 2026, scheduled for online publication in the first quarter of 2027.

Deadline for submissions to the inaugural issue: 30 October 2026.

​

Each issue is deposited with the National Central Library of Taiwan for indexing in the Taiwan Periodical Literature database, and applications to international scholarly indexes will follow publication.

Scope

​

The journal welcomes original scholarly articles from researchers, faculty members, curators, practitioners and postgraduate students in the fields of art history, visual arts, performing arts, music, curatorial studies, design, architecture / interior / landscape design, fashion, visual communication and media, arts education, and practice-based and interdisciplinary research. The editorial focus is the dialogue between European and Asian scholarly traditions.

Article Format

​

Short research articles of up to 3,000 words in English or French, or up to 3,000 characters in Chinese or Japanese (excluding abstract, footnotes and references), with a maximum of eight illustrations.

​

Language Policy

​

Submissions may be written in Chinese, English, French or Japanese. All accepted articles are published in both French and English. Regardless of the language of submission, every manuscript must include an English abstract of 150 to 200 words.

​

Upon acceptance, the French version is produced by professional native-French translators commissioned by the journal. To ensure the accuracy of scholarly terminology and proper names, machine translation is not used.

​

Manuscript Requirements

​

The manuscript must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere. The journal operates double-blind peer review: the author's name must not appear anywhere in the manuscript file. Format: A4, Times New Roman 12 pt, 1.5 line spacing. Citations in footnotes, with a full bibliography at the end of the article prepared according to the French national standard NF ISO 690.

Illustrations

​

JPEG, TIFF or PNG, minimum 300 dpi (shortest side at least 1,500 px). Authors are responsible for securing all reproduction rights before submission.

3. Double-blind peer review by two anonymous reviewers (4–6 weeks)

5. French translation and bilingual production

Fees and Open Access

​

Fees and Open Access Submission and peer review are free of charge; no fee is charged for manuscripts that are not accepted. The following fees apply only upon acceptance:

• Article Processing Charge (APC): €690

• French translation of the full text (native-French professional translators): €650

• English abstract translation and editing: €70

• Language quality review: €150

Indicative total for a manuscript submitted in Chinese: €1,560. All accepted articles are published under the Creative Commons CC BY-NC 4.0 licence.
