1. Scope of the Journal
ALEA — Cahiers d'Art et Recherche welcomes original scholarly contributions in the following areas:

Art theory and aesthetics

Contemporary art practice and praxis

Visual culture studies
-
History of art (modern and contemporary)
-
Curatorial studies and exhibition history
-
East–West comparative art studies
-
Photography, media, and image theory
2. Languages
-
Primary publication language: French
-
Mandatory English abstract: 300 words
-
Optional Chinese abstract
Authors who do not write in French may submit in their preferred language and use our professional translation service (see Author Fees).
3. Manuscript Requirements

Manuscripts must be original, unpublished work not under consideration elsewhere.

Submissions are prepared for double-blind review: the manuscript file must contain no author names, affiliations, or self-identifying references. Author details are provided separately on a cover page.

An English abstract (300 words) is mandatory; a Chinese abstract is optional (see Languages).

Five to eight keywords should accompany the abstract.

A recognised academic citation style must be applied consistently throughout the manuscript.

All images and figures must be accompanied by full captions and source credits; authors are responsible for securing reproduction rights.

Manuscripts are submitted as an editable text document (.docx or .odt). Final accepted versions may be requested in additional formats for production.

Editorial pre-screening (1–2 weeks): scope and format check

Double-blind peer review (8–12 weeks): two anonymous reviewers

Editorial decision: Accept / Revise & Resubmit / Reject

Publication in the next annual issue
5. Funding and Author Fees
ALEA — Cahiers d'Art et Recherche is an independently funded journal. Any applicable author contribution toward editorial production and translation services is communicated directly to authors upon acceptance of a manuscript.
Editorial Board members and invited contributors are exempt from any author fees.
6. Acceptance Rate
ALEA maintains rigorous editorial standards. Average acceptance rate: 30–40%.
7. Open Access Policy
All accepted articles are published under the Creative Commons CC BY-NC 4.0 license. Authors retain copyright; ALEA holds first publication rights.
