Peer Review Policy

ALEA — Cahiers d'Art et Recherche is committed to rigorous, fair, and transparent peer review.
Double-Blind Review Process
All submitted manuscripts undergo double-blind peer review: both reviewer and author identities are kept anonymous throughout the evaluation process.
Review Stages

  1. Editorial Pre-screening (1–2 weeks) The Editor-in-Chief assesses the manuscript for scope, originality, and basic formatting compliance.

 

  1. Reviewer Assignment (1 week) The Editor-in-Chief assigns the manuscript to at least two anonymous expert reviewers drawn from the ALEA international scholar network or invited specialists.

 

  1. Peer Review (6–10 weeks) Reviewers evaluate the manuscript based on:

 

  • Originality and academic contribution

  • Methodological rigour

  • Quality of argumentation and evidence

  • Engagement with relevant scholarship

  • Clarity of writing

 

  1. Editorial Decision (1–2 weeks) Based on reviewer reports, the Editor-in-Chief renders one of four decisions:

 

  • Accept without modification

  • Accept with minor revisions

  • Revise & Resubmit (major revisions required)

  • Reject

Average Timeline

  • Standard review: 8–12 weeks

  • Fast Track review: 4 weeks
     

Editorial Standards
ALEA applies rigorous editorial and peer-review standards. All submissions are assessed on scholarly originality, methodological soundness, and contribution to the field.

Reviewer Confidentiality
The identities of peer reviewers are strictly confidential. Reviewers are bound by confidentiality regarding submitted manuscripts and may not use unpublished material for personal benefit.

Author Rights
Authors have the right to:
 

  • Receive reviewer comments in full

  • Respond to reviewer comments in revised submissions

  • Request a second opinion in cases of significant disagreement (final decision rests with the Editor-in-Chief)

Publication Ethics Policy

ALEA — Cahiers d'Art et Recherche adheres to international standards of publication ethics, drawing on the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

1. Originality and Plagiarism

Submitted manuscripts must be:

  • Original work not previously published elsewhere

  • Not under consideration by another journal

  • Free from plagiarism, including self-plagiarism

All submissions are screened for plagiarism. Confirmed plagiarism results in immediate rejection and a publication ban of two years.

2. Authorship

Authorship is restricted to those who have made substantial intellectual contributions to the manuscript. Ghost authorship, gift authorship, and undisclosed AI-generated content are strictly prohibited.

3. Conflict of Interest

Authors must disclose all potential conflicts of interest, including:

  • Financial relationships

  • Institutional affiliations

  • Personal relationships affecting objectivity

Editorial board members are subject to the same disclosure requirements.

4. AI-Generated Content

Authors must disclose any use of AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude) in manuscript preparation. AI tools cannot be listed as co-authors. Substantive AI-generated content must be clearly identified.

5. Editor Self-Submission

Editorial board members may submit articles to ALEA — Cahiers d'Art et Recherche, but:

  • Their manuscripts undergo independent external peer review

  • They are excluded from any editorial decision regarding their own work

  • Such submissions are marked "Editorial Member Submission" in the published article

6. Retraction Policy

ALEA reserves the right to retract published articles in cases of:

  • Confirmed plagiarism or research misconduct

  • Significant factual errors

  • Undisclosed conflicts of interest

  • Violation of research ethics

Retractions are published transparently with full explanation.

7. Appeals and Complaints

Authors may appeal editorial decisions by writing to the Director of Publication. Appeals are reviewed by an independent ad hoc committee.
