The second edition of the Dog's Day open call, the "Scrappy Doggy Debut Project," has come to a close. This year's call placed one subject — and one subject only — at its heart: real dogs. Illustrators and photographers were invited to capture the most authentic, most moving moments of their canine companions: a waiting gaze, a lazy morning, a full-body leap toward a red ball. After careful deliberation by the jury, we are delighted to announce the winners.
The Winners
First Prize | Phron Tang, I Must Catch It! (Illustration)
Galloping brushwork and buoyant color freeze the pure joy of a dog mid-pounce. "Dong-Dong" seems ready to leap off the paper — a work brimming with life.
Second Prize | Kuan Szu-Tsen, You Could Be a Little Sillier (Illustration)
A deep, tender pastel portrait of "Power," a once-stray shepherd whose eyes now carry the light of home. The humor of the title and the devotion of the image create a poignant tension.
Third Prize | Su Chuan-Chuan、Jean Chuang, Does This Angle Make Me Look Slimmer? (Illustration)
A finely wrought pencil study of Tessa seen from below — within its greys lives the quiet intimacy of ten years of companionship.
Special Merit | Wu Cheng-Han, Little Wang-Wang Goes to Heaven (Illustration)
Blazing color wraps a snow-white figure: the warmest way to remember a dog who has passed. May every companion who has gone ahead be remembered like this.
Honorable Mention | Tsai Tsung-Ta, Three More Minutes (Illustration)
A few loose strokes conjure "Hulu" refusing to get up — scrappy, and scrappy in exactly the right way. The very spirit of this project.
Honorable Mention | Chen Yi-Shan, A Pair of Waiting Eyes (Photography)
The lens holds the backward glance of a street dog. Those eyes ask, quietly: will you stop and see me? A documentary image of deep social conscience.
Nationwide Exposure | FamiPort Marketing Partnership
All winning works are now live on the FamiPort Cloud Gallery of FamilyMart convenience stores, on view across Taiwan for two months. Visit any FamilyMart nationwide to print and collect these works via the FamiPort kiosk.
